From today on, The Economist’s "Global Agenda" online articles are only available for subscribers of the print or web edition of the magazin. If they think this move will get them more subscribers, I very much doubt it. Maybe some readers of the Global Agenda will now subscribe (I will not), but on the long run they lose one of their best advertisments.

Die Mitschrift ist jetzt wieder auf aktuellem Stand, nur den Stoff aus dem Repetitorium habe ich nicht abtippen können, weil meine Mitschrift zu konfus ist, als dass sich daraus sichere Aussagen ableiten ließen. Vielleich könnte mir ja jemand seine Mitschrift zukommen lassen? Danke!
Gstreamer is not the most userfriendly application (that is because it is not intended to be used by the typical user), but a very handy tool. For example
$ gst-launch mmssrc location=mms://www.example.com/file.wma ! filesink location=file.wma
does the thing the title of this post says (for gstreamer 0.8).

Zeitaufwand für die Übungen in dieser Woche (geschatzt):
- Analysis: 2-3 Stunden
- Algebra: 3 Stunden (davon ca. 1 Stunde wirklich konzentriert)
- Maßtheorie: 12 Stunden (ohne Erstellen der Vorlesungszusammenfassung)
Alles für jeweils zwei Stunden Übung. Irgendwo fehlt da die Relation.
Noch etwas (ganz anderes), dass nicht so nicht sein sollte ist Sonys DRM-Rootkit-System und die Einstellung "wenn es die User nicht wissen, dann regen sie sich auch nicht auf, dass wir ihr System unsicher und unstabil machen". Da werde ich wohl in Zukunft einen etwas größeren Bogen um Sony-Produkte machen.

Irgendwie scheinen meine Computer auf Kriegsfuß mit reiserfs zu stehen. Jetzt löst sich auch die letzte reiserfs-Partition auf. Immerhin ist alles Wichtige gesichert. Reiserfs mag ja schnell und fortschrittlich sein, stabil ist es jedenfalls nicht. Naja, ab jetzt nur mehr ext3 für mich. Ich hoffe nur, es ist wirklich alles gesichert…

…spiele alte Computerspiele. Heute in der Bahn: Zwei Schüler (ca. 16 Jahre) sitzen mit ihren Laptops – offensichtlich beide nicht besonders alt. Die normale Annahme die man dann trifft ist, das sie irgendwas neues spielen, höchstens noch Counter-Strike, aber nein, ganz falsch: "Beim Compieren vom Memorystick ist der Computer abgstürzt und die Datei vorloren gegangen [Anm: das kann auch nur in Windows passieren...], kannst du mir Skyroads über’s WLAN schicken?" Skyroads (Release 1992/93) war ja schon alt, wie wir es in der zweiten Klasse kollektiv während EDS (EDV-Schulversuch oder so) gespielt haben. Hmm, das muss jetzt auch schon wieder so 9 Jahre her sein.. Manche Spiele sterben halt nie. Interessant übrigends, dass (laut ihrerer Hompage – Wikipedia scheint da anderer Meinung zu sein) die selben Leute, die Skyroads programmiert haben, auch den FastTrack Stack (Kazaa, etc.) designed haben.
Update: Habe den "missing Link" in diesem Forbes-Artikel gefunden: "If It Works, You Can Break It". Anscheinend haben die Leute von Kazaa und Bluemoon (die Skyroads-Firma) zusammen gearbeiten und Bluemoon wurde in der Wikipedia einfach unterschlagen. Und die selben Leute haben dann auch zusammen Skype auf die Beine gestellt.

While I understand, what the author of that page wants to say, I have to say (from personal experience) that mathematicians are no more arrogant than other people, and are by far not useless!
